Fans attending the World Mixed Doubles and Senior Curling Championships in Fredericton this April will be able to watch a hall of famer.

The Canadian Curling Association (CCA) has announced that Edmonton’s Cathy King, who will skip Canada’s entry in the senior women’s category, is being inducted into the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame. The other inductee this year is Canada’s most decorated wheelchair curler, Sonja Gaudet of Vernon, BC. Both will receive their awards this June during the CCA annual meetings.

King is the first skip to win Canadian championships at the junior, women’s and senior levels. She earned the 2012 senior title, clinching a spot in the world championships in Fredericton, April 13-20, 2013.

“Anyone who follows curling has long known what a great competitor Cathy King has been through the years,” said Local Organizing Committee Chair Wayne Tallon. "This recognition – going into the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame – must be a thrill for her, and it’s certainly exciting for us as the hosts, as well.”

With roughly 350 athletes and coaches expected, the 2013 World Mixed Doubles and Senior Curling Championships presented by Cox & Palmer is on track to become the largest curling event ever in terms of total number of teams and countries represented.

Representing Canada in senior men’s play will be Rob Armitage of Red Deer, Alberta.

Tournament passes for the 2013 World Mixed Doubles and Senior Curling Championships are available online at and or at the Aitken Centre Box Office, the Capital Winter Club and the Fredericton Curling Club. Pricing for the full tournament pass is $99 plus HST plus service fee, or $114 total.
